Charles Godfrey HAWES, son of Charles HAWES (c. 1867-c. 1920) and Mary Ann WALKER (c. 1860-c. 1950), was born circa 1896 in South Lopham, Norfolk. He was baptised on 20 December 1896 in Bressingham, Norfolk - parents Charles (innkeeper) and Mary Ann. Charles died on 18 November 1916 in France. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave registration entry for Charles was “HAWES, Pte. C. C. 24525. 7th Bn. The Queen’s. 18th Nov., 1916. [was formerly 9388, R. Sussex Regt.]” Charles is commemorated at Stump Road Cemetery, Grandcourt - A. 43.
